One Call has been a trusted partner of injured workers, adjusters and case managers for more than 30 years. Our extensive provider network delivers end-to-end recovery solutions such as physical therapy, diagnostics, transportation and translation, and home health and complex care services, with a focus on getting injured workers the care they need, when they need it.
The pandemic rapidly forced millions of employees to work remotely, drastically changing the work environment as we know it. Prior to COVID-19, only 7 percent of the U.S. workforce regularly worked from home; in contrast to 42 percent today. This shift has inspired us to reimagine where the care journey begins. Hear directly from our CEO, Thomas Warsop, in a WorkCompWire article describing our new definition of "end-to-end-solutions" for the workers’ compensation industry.

As many employees quickly transitioned to work from home, creating an ergonomic workspace probably wasn’t top-of-mind. Improper chair positioning, keyboard and monitor alignment, computer placement and body support can all lead to muscle tears, decreased circulation and scar tissue formation, or worse, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and sprains/strains.

Furloughed workers are most at-risk for injury upon return, especially those with strenuous, physically demanding jobs. Engage with employees before and/or immediately upon returning to work, implementing stretching, conditioning and strengthening routines to rebuild muscles that have not been used recently.
After weeks or months of a sedentary lifestyle, this is a great opportunity to reacclimate employees to the daily demands of their specific jobs. These tools can also be used for ongoing assessments and training to help workers prevent injuries before they happen.

What your high school coach preached every season still rings true, you play like you practice. Meaning, your behavior or response to a situation will default to the way you prepare. Whether someone is lifting a 30-pound box at work, a 30-pound child at home, or a 30-pound barbeque in a friend’s backyard, the body only knows it’s lifting 30 pounds. Incorporate workplace safety techniques into all aspects of life to further prevent strain and injury.
